Job Purpose
To develop, implement, and manage integrated SHERQ systems, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), ISO standards, and environmental regulations to minimize risk and optimize safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
• Compliance & Governance: Ensure 100% compliance with the MHSA (Mine Health and Safety Act), OHS Act, NEMA (Environmental), and COIDA.
• Risk Management: Perform and review Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA), Baseline Risk Assessments (BLRA), and SOPs.
• Incident Investigation: Lead root cause analysis (ICAM) for incidents and accidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
• System Management: Develop and maintain ISO 45001 (Safety), ISO 14001 (Environment), and ISO 9001 (Quality) systems.
• Audit & Reporting: Conduct internal/external audits and compile monthly SHERQ statistical reports for board/management meetings.
• Contractor Management: Oversee contractor safety files and compliance on site.
• Environmental & Health: Oversee environmental sustainability initiatives, waste management, and occupational health monitoring programs.
• Leadership: Drive a proactive safety culture through training, induction, and toolbox talks.

Minimum Requirements
• Education: Degree or National Diploma in Safety Management, Environmental Management, or related field.
• Certifications: SAMTRAC/NEBOSH, ICAM training, and Internal Auditor certification (ISO 9001/14001/45001).
• Experience: 8–12+ years of relevant experience in a mining (underground/opencast) or mineral processing environment.
• Leadership: At least 5 years of management experience.
• Legislative Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of MHSA, OHS Act, and COID Act.
• Skills: Strong computer literacy, analytical skills, and report writing abilities.
