Intensive Care Nurse
Objectives
Responsible for maintaining care standards in the ICU department
Able to assess patients quickly, prioritize, and assist in minor procedures
Perform diagnostic tests
Monitoring vital signs and administering medications as ordered by doctors for best results.
Deliver regular updates to doctors, patients and their family members
Begin treatment and monitor doses
Respond to a medical emergency and alert the appropriate Doctors as needed
Care for patient needs throughout their recovery in the ICU unit
Assist in the care of traumas, cardiac arrests, strokes, and other triage situations.
Demonstration of sound decision-making in emergency scenarios based on patient conditions such as vital signs, patient presentation, and assessments.
Complete all necessary paperwork before transferring a patient
Maintain patient records
Create and implement effective care plans
Ultimately, you will work directly with patients to ensure they receive the attention and medical care needed based on their condition.
Educational
Grade 12 – Matric
Proven work experience as an ICU Nurse or similar role
Good understanding of health information structures and technology
Available to work 12-hour day and night shifts
Demonstrate brilliant empathy and communication skills
Relevant training and/or certifications as an ICU Nurse
Professional Attributes
Excellent communication skills, as they need to share vital information in a high-stress environment. Problem solving skills to understand the needs of their patients and deliver necessary medical care
Quick-thinking, have experience in hospitals/facilities related to the job requirements, and come from an accredited nursing program.
You should be proactive and able to solve problems quickly.
Proven experience as a registered nurse (references required)
Experience monitoring patient progress and with providing updates to doctors, patients, and family members
Knowledge of nursing care methods, procedures, and emergency care
Care for patient throughout their recovery in the ICU unit
Expert knowledge of health and safety guidelines/procedures (sanitation, decontamination, etc.)
Excels at communicating with a team and has strong interpersonal skills
Responsible and compassionate with patients
Able to multitask with strong organizational skills
Calm under pressure with excellent problem-solving skills
BSc or another diploma from a nursing program
Valid nursing license
